I can say that for the first time in a really long time I'm considering leaving Opera.  I've been using it a few hours so far and it's definately good.

What are your thoughts?

Oh hurray. This has turned into yet another thread with people puffing up their chests and claiming why their choice is better. And here I thought maybe there would be some actual useful information about IE8 Beta 2.

TheDarkKnight2008, that'll do. No more trolling or I'll sick the moderators on you.

on Aug 29, 2008

Can you guys find a suitable way to repute my arguments, or does it boil down to 'your a troll'?

If you guys want to ignore the harsh reality that is identity theft, then be my guest.  I personally don't care if you end up homeless.  And after you called me a troll, I won't be giving you money.

But please promise me this:  When you need your pc repaired and can't do it, go into a computer tech's office and tell them this, and if they say what I say, call them a troll.  All that will repiar your pc in the end will be the geek squad.

TheDarkKnight2008, you're acting like a child now. When my rig needs work done to it, I do it. I promise I won't ask you to work on it. I'm sure i know more about repairing computers than you do, anyway.

I'm old enough to be your Dad. Actually, my daughter is your age.

I use IE 98% of the time and my credit is fine. Nobody is saying IE is completely safe but neither is Firefox. When did you
become an expert on internet browsers and security?

Yes, you are becoming a troll with your recent posts.

I've been a computer repairman in the past and I'm going back to school under the field of network administrator.  All my life has been devoted to computer security, and people with attitudes about what they wanna do annoys me, as generally they end up with problems again.

I'm honestly betting the people responding like this run Xp on admin mode too...

I have tried all the browsers out there and actually spent over a month with each and have concluded that FF is the best browser for me, although I like Opera also but I just can't live without my FF plug-ins!

All that people who secure pcs want is people to stop making foolish choices.  I guess if you want to give us money, go right ahead, but it's annoying to say the least.

I suppose if I told you to get nod 32, a good firewall that blocks incoming and outgoing, run in user mode not admin, and don't download porn you'd have the same attitude?

I suppose if I told you to run in Vista's 'Sudo' equivelent, UAC, you'd tell me to screw off?

Whatever.  This is why people have problems.

I'm done with this.

P.S.  Thank you Snidely Whiplash for not wanting me to fix your pc.  One of the main reasons I got out of the repair field is because of people like you, and people in this thread, ignorant people who don't listen, and then come back 3 days later and blame me.

on Aug 29, 2008
actually, i run vista64. also, i have my mcse and mcdba certifications. yes, i use nod32 and there's no porn on my rig... ANYWHERE.

because you prefer firefox doesn't make you the expert. i prefer ie over firefox. that fact doesn't make me more or less intelligent than you or anyone else regarding browser security.

what i do not understand is why you are so beligerent regarding this topic. you've insulted users who use ie instead of firefox based soley on your preference, nothing more. granted ie isn't perfect in regards to safety but neither is firefox.

regarding your edit of the previous post, neither you or anyone else works on my rigs. i built them. i repair them.

And one final thing:  If you truly want to be safe, it doesn't start with just a browser.

You SHOULD visit safe sites, but no one does that.  So you need protection.

Nod32 for viruses

A good firewall (I don't have a favorite)

A good spyware finder (I definately suggest spysweeper)

A rootkit finder (Rootkitreveler)

Cache cleaner (Ccleaner)

And a registry cleaner (Hijackthis is a good one)

These SHOULD be run once a week.  if a virus is found, your pc has the possibility of having problems even after it's removed, as the virus scanners cannot gurantee they will wipe the virus.  It should be reformatted.

on Aug 29, 2008

I use all three.  I've been talking about safe UPDATED browsers, not FF in perticular.  I truly HATE people who come in on Xp using admin and use IE 6, and have never updated them

If you read back I actually bashed FF 3.0, and it's mainly due to it being a memory hog.

I guess this didn't come across well, and I admit I've been too aggitated to make it come across well, but I simply mean updated browsers.

on Aug 29, 2008

I am reading back what I said...

Hum, I guess I'm having a bad day.  I meant to say 'UPDATE YOUR DAMN BROWSERS' and it came out all wrong.

on Aug 29, 2008

Well......  I'll suck it up.  You guys aren't stupid.  I am.  I meant to say this concerning browers and somewhere along the lines of saying it, I fucked it all up.

on Aug 29, 2008
Best way to stay safe online no matter what browser or user acc you use & you don't need 3rd party crap ware like firewalls, spyware scanners or even antivirus or returnil, nup all you'se need is a full body condom & 1 for the comp,my fav type are glow in the dark

TheDarkNight2008 ....you may not be too off-base with that one.  There's not a lot of mileage to be had in being belligerent and defining all others as fools...or foolish.

Generally speaking, most people here [on the site - or on the net, even] know next-to-nothing about who or what their audience/respondents really are.

I do know one thing....and it's a guaranteed CERTAINTY.

No matter how expert you are...or how confident you are in your own expertise you will sooner or later be conversing with someone of much greater expertise and/or experience.

At that point you may be reminded simply that you are preaching to the choir, or have it suggested to you to 'suck it in'.

Either way...it's always wise to never underestimate the intelligence of your audience....as you do more than 'just' them a disservice....

Ok. I'm sorry but I've just got to ask.

TheDarkKnight2008 : have you ever posted in a single thread where you didn't come into it shooting off with lame insults and a childish attitude? and to go along with that has there ever been a thread where you came in with those bad attitudes and then didn't turn around later and apologize and blame it on having a bad day?

Just asking because every thread I've ever seen your name on has gone that way.

By the way everything you posted about browsers, antivirus, credit and the rest is all common sense stuff that anyone with half a brain already knows. Hardly qualifies you as any kind of expert.
